District 7 GEt-Together!!

We will be having a District 7 get-together on Sept. 15th, 2009 for a
beginning of the year blow-out!  This is a Tuesday from 4-7 at Trojan
Intermediate School in Potosi.  I will be your hostess for a fun-filled
multi-tasking event that will include lesson plan swaps, hands-on
workshops, & a Smartboard-in-the-Artroom demonstration complete with take-
home CD.  I will have a ton of examples of lessons from my own collection.
If everyone brings about 20 copies of a lesson, along with an example,
we’ll have lots to share- don’t forget your camera!  For directions,
Google: Trojan Intermediate School, 367 Intermediate Dr. Potosi, MO.  My
cell number is 573 210-6185.  Find someone to carpool with if you need to.
Bring a lesson plan snack to share and I’ll meet you there!  If you can’t
make it by 4, that’s okay..get here when you can!

MAEA Dist. 7 Rep.

PS Bring another art teacher buddy that isn’t necessarily a member of MAEA
and we’ll show them what they’re missing!!

It’s that time again!!

MAEA District 7 members, I truly want to know what you’ve been doing.  I need you to email me at singerk@potosi.k12.mo.us or post a comment on this blog telling me what awesome projects you have done this year, what art shows you are participating in, any awards that you or your students have received, and anything else you want to brag about.  Bragging is totally okay here!!  Please let me know so I can let our council know what big things are happening here in District 7!!

Youth Art Month/ Fine Arts Day at Jeff City!

We had a great time at Jefferson City on Tuesday, March 10th, during their Fine Arts Day.  Our students who participated in the Student Art Show were awarded certificates during the ceremony on the staircases at the bottom of the great Rotunda.  First Lady Nixon was in attendance & was gracious enough to be photographed with each group of children after they received their certificates.

I want to congratulate our own District 7 member, Melanie Robinson & her student Audrey May for being selected for the “Governor’s Mansion” Award.  This is a new award & the artwork is handpicked by the First Lady.  Audrey’s artwork will be displayed in the Governor’s Mansion for a period of time & she received a trophy for her beautiful painting.  Congratulations Melanie & Audrey!

“Art is Central to the Core” Spring Conference 2009 at the Lake!!

Hello my fan-tab-u-lous District 7 art teachers!

Get ready for another spectacular conference coming up at Lake of the Ozarks!

Rebecca Moppin has been giving us a few sneak peeks at many of the awesome workshops that are in store for us.  Of course, included in your convention fee is a marvelous CD chock-full of lesson plans & goodies from the presenters.

I know it’s going to be difficult to get beyond the wonderfulness (I know that’s not a word, but it fits) of the workshops, but if you could just for one moment look at what else is in store for you, you would instantly know that you have GOT to be there!!

Not only are you going to receive oodles of lessons & attend many, many workshops full of new & exciting ideas for you & your classroom, but you also will have the privilege of hearing Judy Domeny speak (& sing!) at our luncheon.  She will be the “auctioneer” at the Live Auction.  Find something original to take home with you at the Bizarre Baazaar.  You get to tool through the large room filled with Vendors- try out some new products, talk to them about what you need, & take home some cool samples!

The luncheons at the Lake are awesome.  At dinnertime, Lake of the Ozarks has many, many great restaurants to choose from.  That’s the time to hook up with friends, old & new, and relax.

The MAEA student show is open to all MAEA members’ students.  You simply submit up to 8 pieces of student artwork, postcard-sized, mounted onto a piece of posterboard/matboard.     There is also a  MAEA Teacher Show where you may submit 2 pieces of artwork.  The official rules for that is on the www.maea.net website.

Hope to see you there.  You will NOT regret it, I promise!!  In fact, you’ll be hooked & I’ll see you at every conference from here on out!

For more information, go to www.maea.net & click on “conferences”; or join ArtBytes (you can also find this yahoo group at the maea website!).

WANTED: Dist. 7 Email Addresses

Many of our District 7 members have given me their email addresses in the past so that I can keep them updated with the goings-on in MAEA; however, a portion of you are still not receiving emails from me.  If this is the case for you, it may be due to several varying reasons.  Many of the school districts have blocks on outside emails, so make sure that my email address can get through .This is the situation for several of our members whether they know it or not.  Also, your email address may have changed & I do not have the updated one.  If you have not received an email from me within the last week, please email me at singerk@potosir3.org with your email address & I will try to update it.  Also, be sure that there is nothing blocking my emails from coming through.  You may have to talk to your tech person at school to allow them to come through.  Thanks so much for your assistance with this matter.  I just want to do everything possible to keep you all updated on the wonderful things happening in our district & in our organization!

MAEA District 7 Summer Council Report

Since our last meeting at the Spring Conference in St. Charles, which was amazingly wonderful, District 7 has had several art shows & other various events that I wanted to mention to our Council members.  When I asked our members what they wanted me to brag about, I received several responses.  The Mineral Area College Student Art Show was very successful once again this year.  More than a dozen school districts participated including, but not limited to, Potosi, Kingston, Central, Farmington, North St. Francois County, West St. Francois County, Fredericktown, Arcadia Valley, & Bismarck. Three students from Camdenton R-3 placed in the  Federal Junior Duck Stamp Contest, including one who won 3rd in the state.  Camdenton also had a 2nd place winner in the Arbor Day Poster Contest.  The 4 River district had an art show at East Central College in April that ran for 2 weeks in the college gallery. The show included up to 40 works per school from St. James, Union, New Haven, Owensville, Pacific, St. Clair, Hermann, and Sullivan.

Our own Melanie Robinson has some amazing news that many of us all know about by now.  The Robinsons have a new addition to their family.  Anna has been quite the center of attention these days.  A huge congratulations to Melanie & her husband.  They are so deserving of this new bundle of joy!

When I polled our District 7 members about what they would like to see and do as a group, many responded that they would like to have a hands-on workshop like what we did the past year at Hillsboro High School.  Several who missed it were really wanting us to do it again so that they can participate this time.  Also, many were interested in taking an outing as a group, including Melanie & Anna.  With many of us, including myself, writing curriculum this year, several of us are needing a meeting to collaborate on curriculum writing & Fine Arts GLEs.  So, with that said, I have much planning to do, but I am excited that I have had an increase in interest as compared to last year.  Things are looking up for Dist. 7!
